The Toy-Free Month initiative is now being implemented and tested in kindergartens across partner countries, bringing a fresh approach to play, creativity, and sustainability in early childhood education.

During this special month, traditional toys take a break so that children can rediscover the power of imagination. With the support of their teachers, young learners are creating their own toys and play materials using recyclable and everyday items ♻️. This hands-on experience encourages creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving while introducing children to important sustainability values.

👩‍🏫 What is happening during the implementation phase:
• Teachers are guiding children in designing and building toys from recycled materials.
• Children’s creativity, participation, and engagement with sustainability concepts are being observed and documented.
• Parents are involved through questionnaires and discussions to explore how the experience may influence children’s behaviours and attitudes toward sustainability at home.

Throughout the process, project partners are maintaining close communication with participating teachers, providing support and gathering feedback. The collected insights from teachers, children, and parents will contribute to a final evaluation, helping improve the Sustainable Play: A Guide to a Toy-Free Month and support its wider adoption in kindergartens.

✨ Sometimes the best toys are the ones children invent themselves.
